PROJECT BRIEF
Multi-million-dollar renovations at CUNY Lehman College’s Carman and Shuster Halls include unit ventilation system replacement and air handling unit replacement for existing lecture halls, both requiring permit filings. The scope is primarily mechanical but also includes related general construction, electrical, and remediation work, all to be completed under 2022 code requirements. The CUNY Hunter College project involves decanting the Brookdale campus to the Main Campus, relocating two Chemistry Teaching Labs, two Biology Labs, and the Medical Lab Sciences Program—including laboratories, offices, and classroom space—while new facilities are built at the Science Park and Research Campus (SPARC), enabling renovations to the North, West, and East Buildings at Brookdale.
NERIS is responsible for preparing and submitting Architectural and Mechanical filing applications with NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) for both Carman and Shuster Halls, coordinating Objection Responses, obtaining Design Approval, and coordinating Letters of Completion. For the Hunter College project, NERIS is filing permit applications for Mechanical, plumbing, sprinkler, standpipe, and related structural work at two different Manhattan school buildings.
NERIS coordinated and obtained Department of Transportation (DOT) permits for construction trailer and staging area locations, along with ancillary permits to maintain compliance and prevent project downtime. NERIS is maintaining bi-weekly After-Hours Variances for overnight and weekend work, as construction cannot occur during school hours, and prepared a comprehensive list of all open applications and violations to coordinate resolution in anticipation of obtaining Letters of Completion.
