SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) - This week, Sarasota becomes the first county in Florida to have its disaster recovery fund action plan approved.

After months of work, the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has approved $210 million worth of funding for recovery efforts after Hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton.

The total amount of funding will be divided up between planning and administration, public facilities and infrastructure, and housing, funding.

“Through our initial efforts on drafting the action plan we heard quite a bit from the public as to where those needs are in the community and those have been impacted and flooded and so it has generated a lot of excitement with the plan being approved and getting the award agreement especially for those areas where infrastructure could be improved” Sarasota County Division Manager Steve Hyatt says.

For homeowners, funds will be used for those who need help rebuilding and for homeowners who started building themselves and need reimbursement.
